Restoring Democracy in Myanmar (International IDEA )

Description

The International IDEA project (Restoring Democracy in Myanmar 2023-2024) aims to help restore democracy in Myanmar by supporting democratic actors in Myanmar to build a new constitutional framework and form effective and accountable institutions that ensure inclusive and participatory governance at all levels. Project has three outcome objectives; 1. Legitimate democratic actors apply increased knowledge and skills to make more informed choices regarding the design, process and adoption of a new federal democratic constitution and have the knowledge and capacity to govern effectively and based on constitutionalism to implement democratic reforms based on international technical expertise. 2. Democratic stakeholders increase awareness and capacity to effectively participate in political life and engage more effectively with legitimate democratic actors to design and adopt a new constitution and implement it through democratic reform. 3. Disadvantaged groups (ethnic minorities, women, youth, PWD) apply increased knowledge and capacity to engage more effectively and participate in an inclusive manner in decision making at all levels and benefit from democratic reform, which respects the diversity of the peoples of Myanmar. Myanmar is Finland´s long-term development cooperation partner country. The project supports UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16; Peace, justice and good governance.
