Strengthening inclusive education system in support of Ethiopia's general education sectoral programme

Description

The the project Inclusive education system strengthening aims to improve quality of inclusive education through teacher education. It supports the Ministry of Education in Ethiopia in its effort to implement inclusive education across the sector and is aligned with Ethiopian education policies and strategies, New General Education Curriculum Framework, Teacher Education Curriculum Framework and Education Sector Development Plan VI (2020-2025). The project is implemented in cooperation with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education. Regional Education Bureaus and universities and colleges of teacher education are also implementation partners. The long-term objective of the project is that all children and youth are enabled to participate in quality and inclusive education through improved equitable access and internal efficiency from pre-primary through secondary education. The project provides technical assistance for the sectoral programme in general education that is under planning and follows the current sectoral programme General Education Quality Improvement Programmme for Equity (GEQIP-E) in Ethiopia, especially in achieving the planned results related to equity and inclusion. The planned outcome of the project is that teacher education institutions have enhanced capacity to develop teacher education for inclusion. to achieve this technical support is provided to the following outputs: 1) teacher educators integrate aspects of inclusive education in their courses, and use inclusive pedagogy in practice, 2) Model Inclusive Education Resource Centres are developed to showcase child-friendly, supportive environments with inclusive practice for learning of all, and 3) planning, implementation and monitoring of inclusive education is strengthened. Funding for the project is 5 million euros in 2023-2027.
