KV.RAH.LAIT/WB/ Human Rights, Inclusion and Empowerment Umbrella Trust Fund

Description

Rising global inequalities, Covid-19, lagging progress in economic and social development, multiple prolonged violent conflicts, and increased forced displacement point to a need to strengthen the understanding of human rights in development efforts. The World Bank Group’s (WBG) Human Rights, Inclusion and Empowerment Trust Fund (HRIETF) aims to address these challenges. Its development objective is to increase and strengthen the understanding and application of human rights principles in the WBG’s work. HRIETF will achieve this by contributing to human rights principles being incorporated in analytical products and operations receiving HRIETF support; contributing to WBG staff and management's understanding and incorporation of human rights principles in development; and contributing to external partnerships that influence analyses and/or operations supported by the HRIETF. The HRIETF funds work though five grant windows focusing on governance, social inclusion, infrastructure, fragility, conflict and violence as well as research and evaluation. The HRIETF supports the implementation of Finland’s cross-cutting development objectives, as well as development objectives set in the context of cooperation with the World Bank Group. The Human Rights, Inclusion and Empowerment Umbrella Trust Fund, previously named Human Rights and Development Trust Fund, was established in 2019. HRIETF builds on the experiences of the Nordic Trust Fund, which was founded in 2007 and which concluded its work in 2019.
