International IDEA
Description
International Institute for Democracy and Electoral IDEA (International IDEA), is the leading multilateral organization focusing solely on democracy support. Finland is a founding member of International IDEA. IDEA promotes democracy in several developing countries and emerging democracies by implementing democracy support projects and building global knowledge base on democracy. IDEA collects and produces knowledge products and publishes tools for states' judicial and electoral authorities and other democracy actors to use. The emphasis is on responding to the needs of public authorities and civil society of developing countries. IDEA's materials are used also by Finnish actors. Finland provided core funding from 2001 to 2015 and again in 2021, and has also supported IDEA's regional programmes in Africa and country project in Nepal. Currently Finland is funding IDEA's My Constitution project in Myanmar. Finland is the vice chair of IDEA's Governing Council in 2022. In December 2021, the Finnish Parliament decided to allocate EUR 500 000 for responding to the needs of International IDEA in the Government budget for 2022. The support will be channeled as softly earmarked core contribution. The aims of the core contribution are to: * support the development of International IDEA's emerging work stream on digitalization and democracy, especially for integrating the theme into the Global State of Democracy assessment as well as for protecting electoral processes and authorities from disinformation and online attacks; * strengthen democratic institutions in Ukraine and Georgia and to improve public engagement in constitutional processes in Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
