Fostering health and protection to vulnerable migrants transiting through Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Yemen and Sudan (Phase III)

The project managed by the IOM (International Organization for Migration) aims to support and fill the gaps of the national and local actors of Morocco, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Yemen and Sudan in jointly managing migration flow with a focus on improving health and protection to vulnerable migrants. In each target country the IOM will implement a range of activities such as direct assistance to migrants in need of medical and humanitarian assistance, assistance to national authorities to respond to and manage the health needs of migrants and their host communities in migrant-dense areas, and capacity building of governmental and non-governmental health structures to deliver quality health care services. Priority is given to the most vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking, women, victims of sexual and gender based violence, and unaccompanied and separated children. In addition, IOM will enhance the regional dialogue and cooperation on migration issues. The project is now in its third phase with previous phases having begun in 2015 and 2018 respectively. Since 2015 migrants government officials, non-governmental actors and health care practitioners have been assisted and trained on migration and health issues. Finland's support for the third phase running from 2020 to 2023 is 3 500 000 Euros.
