Albania; support to post-earthquake reconstruction
Description
Albania was struck by a 6,4 magnitude earthquake on 26th November 2019. The earthquake together with the aftershocks resulted in 51 casualties, over a thousand injured, and 17,000 displaced persons. The Government of Albania, together with the European Union, the United Nations and the World Bank have prepared a post-disaster needs assessment (PDNA), which assessed damage and losses and prepared recommendations and a budget for recovery and reconstruction priorities on several sectors. The project responds to recovery needs identified in the PDNA and the funding provided by Finland is channeled through a dedicated Earthquake Recovery Window of the Albania SDG Acceleration Fund – co-chaired by the Government of Albania and the United Nations. The Window will ensure a transparent and coordinated approach to implementation and monitoring, and is fully consistent with the SDGs.
