INGO/Support to the ENERGIA International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy
Description
ENERGIA has emerged as a leading international network with the objective of mainstreaming gender in energy sector policies and programmes in developing countries, In response to increasing demand for advice from stakeholders on how to integrate gender in energy in policy and practice, ENERGIA has gradually stepped up its activities which can be grouped into five broad categories: institutional networking, capacity building, policy influencing and advocacy, engendering energy projects and programmes, and knowledge management and research. Building on its successes and lessons learned to date, ENERGIA has secured funding from Sweden, Norway and Finland for the Phase 5 of tis activities that cover years 2012-2015 and focus on: supporting gender and energy networks; intensifying impacts through Country Programmes; and promoting greater understanding of gender mainstreaming through knowledge management and advocacy. By supporting the network, Finland is both achieving its own policy objectives of improving the gender mainstreaming on sectoral policies and programmes in partner countries and enabling peer learning as part of the governing board and as a member of the network. ENERGIA is present in 13 African countries: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe; and 9 Asian countries: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Vietnam. ETC Foundation formally hosts ENERGIA as its international Secretariat and provides the legal and fiduciary framework through which ENERGIA international programmes are funded and managed.
