UNDP's 5. National Evaluation Capacity Conference (NEC5)

Description

The NEC Conference series is part of UNDP/IEO strategy to support the development of national evaluation capacity, but distinguishes itself in that it focuses on supporting the governments with which UNDP works across the globe. The fifth NEC conference will be organized in October 16-20 2017. UNDP will organize the conference in Istanbul in partnership with the Turkish Government. The conferences have the following general objectives: (1) Provide a forum for discussion of lessons and challenges at the national level pertaining to the evaluation function; (2) Enable participants to draw on the experiences of other countries; and (3) Facilitate longer-term initiatives through South-South and triangular cooperation to strengthen national capacities for public policy evaluation. The topic of the NEC in 2017 is ”National Evaluation Capacities in the SDDG Era: People, Poverty and the Planet in 2017”. The theme highlights the importance of further development of national evaluation systems and capacity for evaluation of the SDGs. Organising the conference in Europe gives opportunities also for European administration to participate in the global dialogue and learning. Support to NEC conferences is part of EVA-11’s longer term support to evaluation capacity development of partner countries. This is complementary to other initiatives through which EVA-11 supports civil society evaluation capacity (EvalPartners).
