UEF-UNEP Course on Multilateral Environmental Agreements

The Ministry has been funding the Course on Multilateral Environmental Agreement that has been organized by the University of Eastern Finland in collaboration with UNEP. Due to the change of the legal status of Finnish universities, the organizer was re-selected in 2011 by using an open tendering process. A new contract between the Ministry and the University of Eastern Finland was made in 2012 covering the 2012 course but including also an option for another course to be organized in 2013 (1+1 principle). The 2013 course will be organized in August in Joensuu, Finland. The course aims at broadening the participants’ professional perspective as well as increasing interaction between participants with different professional backgrounds. The course promotes the achievement of the MDGs by building developing countries’ capacity in participating the negotiations on multilateral environmental agreements and especially the capacity to participate in the decision-making, monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of environmental agreements.
