Support to the conduct of Finnish Co-chairmanship of International Dialogue for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding

The Busan High Level Forum on Aid Effectiveness in 2011 endorsed the New Deal for Engagement in Fragile State (New Deal). New Deal defines new ways of promoting sustainable development tin situations of conflict and fragility. A total of 41 countries and organisations have endorsed the New Deal. Finland endorsed New Deal in 2012. The mandate of International Dialogue for Peacebuilding and Statebuilding (IDPS) is to support and monitor the implementation of the New Deal. IDPS consists of countries in fragile situations (so-called g7+) and donor countries as well as international and civil society organisations. The following New Deal pilot countries are followed by the IDPS: Afghanistan,Republic of Central Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Somalia and East Timor. In addition, IDPS acts to further peace and statebuilding as part of the global development agenda, including the post-2015 process. Development Minister Pekka Haavisto was elected as the co-chair of the IDPS in early 2014. Emilia Pires, the Minister of Finance of East Timor acts as a second co-chair of the dialogue. The purpose of the proposed funding is to support effective and successful conduct of Finland’s co-chairmanship including visits and international events. The proposed funding is 100 000 euros for years 2014-2015.
