EU - Supporting Sustainable and Inclusive Social Protection Systems (EU/SPS-Programme)

Description

The extension of Social Protection Floors to cover all girls, boys, women and men is one of the most effective ways to eradicate extreme poverty, to reduce social and gender inequalities and to guarantee the realization of the human right to adequate livelihoods for all. This EU/SPS-Programme - co-financed by the EU-Commission (DEVCO/B3), MFA-Finland and OECD Development Centre - supports the efforts of developing countries to build up their national systems of social protection and essential services, and to make them socially, economically and politically sustainable. The national capacities of developing countries to analyse their existing social protection systems and prioritized reform needs will be strengthened. Good practices will be documented to guide future programming of Europan Commission's and Member States' ODA in support of the extension of social protection for all. The European Commission has delegated the implementation of the programme to a consortium consisting of the OECD Development Centre and the Gvoernment of Finland. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Finland has delegated the Finnish functions of the programme within the Government of Finland structures to THL, the National Institute of Health and Welfare. Yet, in the Programme Steering Committee Finland will be represented by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
