Project: Strengthening national human rights defenders and NGOs' capacity to promote positive change at a national level in Asia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and the Americas The development goals of this programme are twofold. It aims to contribute to improving respect for and implementation of freedom of expression and assembly for human rights defenders and their organisations and to to strengthening democracies and peace building by fighting impunity and strengthening the rule of law in the respect of international human rights standards. FIDH has defined the following specific objectives: - Protect human rights defenders in dangerous or repressive situations - Strengthen human rights defenders’ capacity to speak out, act and take part in international fora. - Strengthen the right to effective recourse for victims of international crimes - Promote effective and equitable justice system To build upon the successful cooperation developed with the MFA of Finland, FIDH has chosen to focus this work on Asia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America, in support of FIDH’s member and partner organisations, national human rights NGOs. In the development of this programme, as in all of its activities, FIDH has paid particular attention to ensuring that a gender balance is respected in the composition of its delegations, trainings and other forms of mobilisation. Likewise, in its on-going monitoring, FIDH places specific emphasis on the violations perpetrated against women. FIDH's gender policy will guide the implementation of the activities of the programme.
