World Bank Multi-Donor Trust Fund for the Middle East and North Africa Region

Description

The objective of The Middle East and North Africa Multi-Donor Trust Fund of the World Bank is to provide catalytic donor support to countries in transition and reform. The trust fund focuses on 1) strengthening governance, 2) increasing social and economic inclusion, 3) creating jobs, and 4) accelerating sustainable, climate-friendly growth. The cross-cutting themes are gender, regional integration and a competitive private sector. Two broad types of activities are financed - technical assistance, and knowledge sharing and dissemination. Trust Fund works with both governments and the private sector but also with civil society organizations, trade unions, and chambers of commerce. Activities are either regional or country-focused. The target countries are Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, the occupied Palestinian territory, and Yemen. Finland joined the Trust Fund in 2012 committing 800 000 Euros. Other donors are Great Britain, Norway and Denmark. Since the Trust Fund's establishment in 2012, total contributions have amounted to US$17 million. Through the Trust Fund, 144 analytical products have been produced (policy notes, survey work, evaluations, reports), 109 technical assistance activities have been offered (project design, capacity building), 204 dialogue and knowledge sharing events have been arranged, and 17 931 people have been trained (40 % of which women), and 824 businesses have been provided with support.
