International Environmental Conventions; developing countries participation
Description
The project supports the participation of developing country representatives in the meetings of international environmental conventions, agreement negotiations and expert seminars. The support is vital for the capaciticy building of developing countries. It also enables them to implement their commitments and take part in the decision making, follow-up and evaluation of the implementation of different agreements. The incoporation of environmental obligations into developing countries' sustainable development strategies ja development programmes, in particular into poverty reduction strategies, is essential for achieving the Millennium Development Goald (MDGs) and future Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Finland funds, in 2014, the participation of developing country representatives in the meetings of international environmental conventions with 600 000 euros.
