UNESCO; Enhancing Life and Work Skills for Youth in Lebanon Affected by Syria Crisis

Description

The project focuses on the development of skills for life and work through the implementation of curricula and teaching and learning Modules/Learning Packages on “Life and Work Skills for Youth” in different education stages involving learners of the age range 13-24. It is conceived as a pilot to inform further scaling up of such approaches at a system level. The project is targeting 2,000 youth Syrian learners of the age range 13-24 (with a focus on age group 13-15), as well as 1,000 Lebanese Youth affected by the Syria crisis to benefit from the project directly. The acquisition and development of knowledge, skills and attitudes for life and work will support learners in advancing their life and careers in their local communities, while also preparing them to contribute to reconstruction efforts in Syria, as appropriate. The project will also benefit the national authorities, such as CERD, and GDVTE/MOEHE, as well as key stakeholder institutions in the public and private sectors (i.e. NGOs and Business Associations).Given its pilot nature, the project results will equally inform the work of others, including international organizations in their efforts to scale up education access and quality for Youth affected by the Syria crisis. The project’s main expected results are as follows: ER1.Learners affected by the Syria crisis equipped with skills for life and work through the development of necessary curricula and Modules/Learning Packages for learners of the age range 13-24, with a focus on middle school students (grades 7-9); ER2.Teachers able to integrate skills for life and work in their school and classroom activities based on hands-on capacity development; and ER3.Inclusive and enabling school environments that encourage learning to live together and constructive participation of Youth in their schools and communities. In line with the organization rules and regulations, UNESCO Beirut Office, Regional Bureau for Education in the Arab States will manage and implement the project activities in cooperation with the Centre for Educational Research and Development (CERD) and the General Directorate for VTE/Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE). UNESCO and the two aforementioned institutions are part of UNESCO-UNEVOC TVET Regional Network.
