SFC; Resilience project of poor and very poor households facing food and nutritional insecurity in northern provinces in Burkina Faso

Description

The food and nutrition security assessments conducted in recent years in the Kossi and Sourou provinces indicate that this region is subject to recurring deprivations, resulting from adverse climate, environment, social and economic conditions. The consortium led by Terre des hommes and composed by Save the Children Finland, GRET, Wupakwe and Salaki proposes a multisectoral response integrating nutrition, health, food security and governance dimensions to address the key challenges of building resilience in Boucle du Mouhoun. This multisectoral approach will focus on: (1) improving access to basic services for households and vulnerable groups (poorest households, pregnant women and children); (2) sustainably improve the productive capacities of households and vulnerable groups and their access to diversified food; and (3) strengthen the capacity of local institutions and communities to ensure good quality of food, nutrition and health security services. The proposed action aims to address the root causes of food and nutrition insecurity in Boucle du Mouhoun. The purpose of this approach is to break the chain of intergenerational and multidimensional poverty and chronic food insecurity that affects the most vulnerable communities, households and children. Expected results: - Improved access to health, water and sanitation services and enhanced knowledge, attitudes and practices on the prevention of malnutrition at the target communities' level. -Improved access to food by the poorest households and their increased productive capacity, by the establishment of social safety nets and livelihoods support. -Strengthened capacities of local actors in the planning, coordination and monitoring of food and nutrition security actions in the risk management and response to disasters. -A model of integrated resilience is documented and disseminated to policy makers and key actors at the local and national level for scaling up. Health, nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene activities will benefit directly 138,692 people and indirectly 495,254 people, ie a total of 105,657 households on the basis of 6 people per household. Disaster risk management and governance support activities will indirectly benefit 37 567 households. In addition, direct beneficiaries if livelihood activities are 9611 households and the beneficiaries of social safety nets will be 1600 households.
