Trademark Africa to present business opportunities for Finnish companies
The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Finland Chamber of Commerce will organise an event on Monday 11 September 2023 where Trademark Africa will present its activities and the business opportunities available for Finnish companies.
Reform of Finnish Foreign Service: working group to start on 4 September
The Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has appointed an internal working group to prepare a reform of the Foreign Service in accordance with the Government Programme. The term of the working group will last from 4 September to December, when the group will submit its final report and recommendations to the ministers of the Foreign Ministry.
Changes to prices of services provided by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Finland’s missions abroad
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs proposes an increase to some of the prices of services provided by Finland’s missions abroad and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. The new prices would enter into force on 1 September 2023.
Six million euro funding boost for development research from Research Council of Finland and Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland
The Research Council of Finland and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland have granted funding for nine research projects within a call for applications that was launched under the Academy Programme for Development Research, DEVELOP2. The programme provides funding for multidisciplinary and problem-driven research that describes and interprets dimensions of development, helps understand obstacles to development and finds ways in which those obstacles can be removed.
European Committee of Social Rights delivers decision on rights of persons with disabilities in COVID-19 response in spring 2020
In a decision published on 25 August 2023, the European Committee of Social Rights concluded that the right of persons with disabilities to protection of health, social integration and participa-tion in the life of the community as laid down in the revised European Social Charter, as well as the prohibition of discrimination, were not violated in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020.
Finland and the United States negotiate a defence cooperation agreement
A year ago, Finland and the United States opened negotiations on a new defence cooperation agreement. So far, three rounds of negotiations have been completed. Concluding the negotiations is an objective included in Finland’s new Government Programme. The Finnish Parliament needs to accept the agreement before it can be adopted. The agreement will reinforce Finland's security and promote the fulfilment of NATO membership obligations.
Grass-roots peace action needed in Iraq and Somalia
The peace projects launched by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Iraq and Somalia have brought together people, and especially young people, who share an interest in the challenges facing the country and society, and in peace building. Millions of viewers have been reached through social media and television over the four years of projects.
Government to fly flags for Ukrainian Independence Day on Thursday 24 August
In honour of Ukrainian Independence Day on Thursday 24 August, the Government will fly the Ukrainian flag at Senate Square and at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs’ main building Merikasarmi, which will also be illuminated in blue and yellow in the evening.
