Jorma Suvanto: Development cooperation has changed over the decades
Jorma Suvanto has been closely involved in Finnish development cooperation projects for more than 30 years. He last served as the Finnish ambassador to Nepal and will retire in October. He has had an excellent vantage point from where to follow changes in development cooperation over the decades.
Suspected misuse of development cooperation funds in Zambia's social protection programme
Finland supports the implementation of Zambia's national social protection policy. The work is funded through a nationwide social cash transfer programme and the UN's social protection programme. The support has strengthened the social protection of the poorest households in Zambia. The poorest and most vulnerable households, especially women and girls, have benefited from the programme
Finnish-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation to discuss energy efficiency and cooperation in education
The Finnish-Ukrainian Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation will meet in Kyiv on 18 September 2018. Under-Secretary of State for External Economic Relations Markku Keinänen and Ukraine's Minister of Education and Science Liliia Hrynevych will chair the meeting, which will look at the economic cooperation between Finland and Ukraine.
Midpoint of Finland’s Chairmanship of the Arctic Council
Suomen Finland’s Chairmanship of the Arctic Council started in May 2017. It will culminate with the Foreign Minister’s meeting to be held in Rovaniemi in May 2019. Now that we are halfway through our chairmanship, it is quite appropriate to take a look into the past and to what lies ahead. According to Foreign Minister Timo Soini, Finland has made good progress towards meeting the targets set for the chairmanship. Towards the end of the year there will be a true cavalcade of Arctic events.
