New Ambassador to Maputo and a new Head of Mission to Ramallah

At the presidential session on Friday 27 March 2020, the President of the Republic appointed a new Ambassador to Maputo and a new Head of Mission to Ramallah.

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Anna-Kaisa Heikkinen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique starting on 1 September 2020.

Heikkinen will transfer to Maputo from Ramallah in the Palestinian territory, where she has worked as Head of Mission in 2017–2020. From 2014 to 2017, she worked as the Prime Minister’s Special Adviser for international affairs.

Prior to that, Heikkinen worked in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and was responsible for the bilateral relations between Finland and Russia in 2013–2014, and for trade policy communications in 2012–2013.  Her career in the Diplomatic Service includes posts in Petrozavodsk, Moscow and New Delhi.

Heikkinen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2003. She holds a Master's degree in Social Sciences.

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Päivi Peltokoski to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Representative Office in Ramallah starting on 1 September 2020.

Peltokoski will transfer to Ramallah from the Unit for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, where she has worked as Director of Unit since 2014. Before that, she served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Consulate General in St Petersburg. Her career in the Diplomatic Service includes posts in Tallinn and Moscow.

In the Ministry, Peltokoski has accumulated extensive experience of matters related to Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Peltokoski joined the Foreign Ministry in 1998. She holds the degree of Master of Political Science.
