Foreign Minister Soini to a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels

The EU Foreign Ministers will convene at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on 18 January. Finland's representative at the meeting will be Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini. The agenda highlights will be Iraq, Ukraine and Syria. The Foreign Ministers will also meet with Jordan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh at an informal lunch to discuss the cooperation between the EU and Jordan in international and regional questions.

Current developments in the conflict in Syria will be examined at the Foreign Affairs Council. One of the central themes will be the political process to resolve the Syrian conflict. The meeting will also discuss the objectives of the Syria Donors Conference to be held in London on 4 February 2016.

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini will present a review of the current situation in Iraq for a basis of discussion at the meeting. The EU's role in the region and action to counter ISIL will also be on agenda.

Additionally, the ministers will examine the current situation in Ukraine, including progress in the reforms.
Foreign Minister Soini will also participate in an informal meeting between EU Foreign Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, hosted by Denmark, and in an informal meeting with the Foreign Minister of Macedonia, Nikola Poposki, hosted by Austria and Hungary.
