Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto to visit Brussels and speak at meeting of EU Heads of Mission

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will visit Brussels on 10 October and speak at a meeting of the EU Heads of Mission. Minister Haavisto will also meet EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib.

The annual meeting of the European Union Heads of Mission (EU HOMS) will discuss the role of the EU in a fragmented world. EU High Representative Joseph Borrell has invited Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto to address the Heads of Mission, after which the Minister will join a panel to discuss the EU as a global actor with political scientist Ivan Krastev. Krastev chairs the Board of the Centre for Liberal Strategies.

“The invitation shows that there is an interest in Finland’s views on strengthening the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy. Finland wants the EU to be strong and united in a fragmented world,” says Foreign Minister Haavisto.

Foreign Minister Haavisto will meet EU High Representative Josep Borrell in Brussels. They will discuss topical foreign and security policy questions, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Horn of Africa and the Western Balkans.

In Brussels, Foreign Minister Haavisto will have a bilateral meeting with Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Hadja Lahbib. He will also meet Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and Executive Director of the European Institute of Peace Michael Keating.
