Suspected case of cybercrime relating to a development cooperation project investigated by the National Bureau of Investigation

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is investigating a suspected case of cybercrime related to a legal sector project conducted by Finland and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kyrgyzstan.

The investigation concerns a disbursement of EUR 400,000 made by Finland to the UNDP in February 2018, of which a part has ended on wrong accounts. The case does not concern misuse of funds within the programme but an external professional cybercriminal is suspected of the act.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs made a request for investigation of the matter to the NBI in March 2018. The NBI continues to investigate the case.
