Harri Mäki-Reinikka appointed as ambassador to Nicosia

On Thursday 11 February, the President of the Republic appointed Ambassador Harri Mäki-Reinikka as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Nicosia as of 1 September 2020.

Currently Mäki-Reinikka serves as Ambassador for Northern Policies in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.  Mäki-Reinikka has held the position of Secretary General of the Finnish Arctic Advisory Council, appointed by the Prime Minister's Office, in 2017–2019 and served as Head of the Finnish Embassies in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2013–2016 and Damascus, Syria, in 2008–2012. While in Vilnius, Mäki-Reinikka also served as Finland’s Ambassador to Belarus and in Damascus as Finland’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.

In the Foreign Ministry, Mäki-Reinikka has previously served as public official deputising for the Minister for Nordic Cooperation and head of the Secretariat for Nordic Cooperation (2005–2008). He has also held different positions in the Ministry’s Department for Europe, Department for External Economic Relations and Political Department. In addition, Mäki-Reinikka has worked in Finland’s embassies in Geneva, London, Alger and Paris.

Mäki-Reinikka has been employed by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs since 2 May 1986.    

Heads of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia and Department for Development Policy continue in their duties

In its session on 11 June, the Government made a decision to continue the appointments  of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Maimo Henriksson, Director General of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Satu Santala, Director General of the Department for Development Policy, until 31 August 2022.
