New Deputy Director General and appointment of Director of the National Security Authority for another term

On Thursday 27 August, the Government made two new appointments. The Government promoted Soili Kangaskorpi to the public office of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs from 1 September 2020 and appointed her to the post of Deputy Director General of the Department for the Americas and Asia in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a fixed term from 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2024.

Kangaskorpi will transfer to the post of Deputy Director General from the Unit for North America, where she has served as Director of Unit since 2016. In 2013–2016, she worked as an official responsible for matters relating political affairs in the US. Kangaskorpi has experience of work in the Unit for Security Policy and Crisis Management from 2007–2010. In 2005–2007, she served as Deputy Head at the Central Office of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe in Brussels.  Her experience of posts in the Diplomatic Service include positions in Stockholm, Warsaw and the Permanent Mission of Finland to the United Nations in New York.

Kangaskorpi joined the Foreign Ministry in 1996. She holds the degree of Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

Additionally, the Government appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Anu Laamanen to the post of Director of the National Security Authority for another term from 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2022. Laamanen has served in the position since 2016.
