Finland to chair OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in 2026
Finland has been selected to chair the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD in 2026. The ministers of the OECD countries confirmed the selection at the OECD’s Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris on 4 June.

“I am very happy that Finland was selected for this highly significant task. The current geopolitical situation further stresses the OECD’s role as a forum for like-minded countries. The international standards developed in the OECD have important impacts as they also ensure an equitable operating environment for Finnish companies,” Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio says.
According to Tavio, Finland truly appreciates the OECD’s analyses, and they are used widely for policy-making and the development of our society.
The Ministerial Council Meeting to be chaired by Finland will be held in Paris in May or June 2026. The date of the meeting will be confirmed later.
Finland joined the OECD in 1969 and it has chaired the organisation once before, in 1984.
The task of the OECD is to produce research data and analyses about economic and social policy. It offers recommendations, standards and best practices for its members and other parties for policy-making that supports prosperity, equality, opportunities and wellbeing. The OECD promotes multilateral solutions to global challenges.
The organisation’s work covers almost all public policy sectors. The OECD has been on the global forefront in matters such as preventing tax evasion, developing rules for trade and managing the digital transformation.
