Ministers Haavisto and Skinnari to attend World Economic Forum in Davos

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will attend the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Minister Haavisto will be in Davos from 17 to 19 January and Minister Skinnari from 17 to 18 January.

This year’s WEF theme, ‘Cooperation in a Fragmented World’, refers to the prevailing conditions of international economy and politics. The COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have increased international instability. Economic growth is waning in the world’s largest economies and inflation is accelerating across the world. International tensions have grown at the same time as the acute energy crisis is increasing the need for cooperation to fight climate change.

Minister Haavisto will be an invited speaker at a number of events. The events will focus on the effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the possibilities of the international community to address global problems, among other topics. In addition, he will have many interviews with international media.

Minister Skinnari’s programme in Davos will include panel discussions focusing on the outlook for the conflict in Ukraine and on changes in international value chains.

In addition, Minister Haavisto and Minister Skinnari will have a number of bilateral meetings with representatives of different countries, international organisations, business life and civil society.
