Minister Skinnari’s Italy visit focuses on smart low-carbon transport solutions

Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will visit Italy on 2–5 May.

The purpose of the visit is to promote cooperation between Finland and Italy especially in green transition and smart transport as well as in the digital sector, such as 5G/6G technologies and cyber security. The Minister will also discuss the implementation of the EU’s recovery package in Italy. 

Skinnari will first visit Rome, where he will meet, among others, Italy’s Minister for innovation and digital transition Vittorio Colao, Minister of Economic Development Giancarlo Giorgetti as well as Enrico Giovannini, the Minister responsible for infrastructure and sustainable mobility. Skinnari will also discuss the global food security situation with Gilbert Houngbo, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development, which operates under the UN. 

As part of Minister Skinnari’s visit, a Team Finland trade mission will be organised to North Italy’s industrial hubs Turin and Milan. The agenda includes meetings with key automotive industry operators as well as networking events with the local administration in northern Italy and relevant sectoral organisations.

The business delegation coordinated by Business Finland includes 13 Finnish companies: Aalto University, Akkurate, Basemark, Elisa IndustrIQ, Fortum, JOT Automation, Nanoksi Finland, Solita, Stora Enso, TactoTEK, Ultra Design & Strategy, Vaisala and WithSecure. 

“Italy is known for its expertise in the automotive industry. Global trends in transport, such as autonomous cars, growing role of services in transport and electrification of motoring, have also brought Finland to the forefront of intelligent mobility. Finnish companies can offer world-class innovations that promote the development of smart and resource-efficient mobility solutions,” Minister Skinnari says.
