The Foreign Affairs Council will discuss the future of global development financing and the relations between the EU and Africa. The meeting between foreign affairs ministers of the European Union and the African Union was held in Brussels on 21 May.
The ministers of development will also discuss the EU’s external action after 2027. The Commission is expected to submit its proposal for the EU’s next multiannual financial framework for 2028 onwards in the summer. Support to Ukraine is also on the meeting’s agenda.
“Financing for development cooperation should be targeted strategically to involve the private sector in promoting global sustainable development. We should make it attractive for businesses to participate in investments that are important for developing countries. Long-term support for Ukraine is also crucial,” Minister Ville Tavio says.
