Claus Lindroos appointed as Deputy Director General of the Department for Africa and the Middle East

At its session on Thursday 10 September, the Government appointed a new Deputy Director General for the Department for Africa and the Middle East.

The Government promoted Claus Lindroos to the public office of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs from 1 October 2020 and appointed him to the post of Deputy Director General of the Department for Africa and the Middle East in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for a fixed term from 1 October 2020 to 31 August 2024.

Lindroos will transfer to the post from the Unit for Humanitarian Assistance and Policy, where he has served as Director of Unit since 2015. In 2014–2015, he served as Special Adviser to the Minister for Development Cooperation. Over the years, Lindroos has accumulated knowledge and experience of Africa from working as Team Leader in the North Africa Team, the Horn of Africa Team and the West Africa Team.  His career in the Diplomatic Service includes posts in Brussels, Dublin and Nairobi.

Lindroos joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1997. He holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences.
